CFMD is proud to announce our May 2017 grant recipient, the Eastham Family! Nicole Eastham applied for the CFMD grant to purchase supplies to build a deck with a ramp for her two sons, James and William, who both have Duchenne muscular dystrophy. With the deck complete, the whole family is now able to enjoy time outside together and the boys also have a second entrance and exit to and from the house.
CFMD awards grants twice a year in May and October. Grant applicants must be a Virginia resident with a diagnosed form of muscular dystrophy. Grant may be used towards anything that would increase their quality of life. For more information about applying for the CFMD grant, visit http://www.coloradofmd.org/grants/. On May 20, 2017, CFMD participated in the Richmond Muscle Walk to share information about our nonprofit and the grant that we offer. We met several families that did not know about our grant and were interested in applying. It was a pleasure to see our first and third grant recipients Ben Bamgarner and his family and Keilondi Johnson at the event. In 2015, CFMD presented Ben an adaptive tricycle by Rifton for his 5th birthday! In 2016, Keilondi Johnson was awarded a grant to help pay for the purchase of the Go Wing device that helps her move her arms.
On May 7, 2017, CFMD hosted its fifth annual bake sale at St. Edward’s Catholic Church to raise funds for muscular dystrophy. The event was a huge success raising $865!
CFMD was fortunate to have talented supporters who donated many hand made breads, desserts and Filipino lunch items for us to sell. A large thank you to the bake sale volunteers and those that purchased food for a great cause. Since 2014, CFMD has made a total of $3,835.42 from hosting bake sales.
